Sapna Advani is a fun-loving, energetic performer and choreographer based in New York. While she spent much of her childhood training in Contemporary/Lyrical and Bharatanatyam, Sapna has also pursued and mastered dance styles such as Commercial Jazz, Street Jazz, Commercial Heels, and Bollywood. In her early years, Sapna started her training under Bharatanatyam Guru Kamala Narayani, while also gaining opportunities to dance alongside Bollywood Stars such as Dino Morea and the one-and-only Shah Rukh Khan. Since then, Sapna has trained professionally at the Martha Graham School of Dance and Broadway Dance Center. She has also had the opportunity to study and train under industry moguls such as Dana Foglia, Ebony Williams, Olivia Coppola and Yvonne Marie-Sain. Much of Sapna’s choreographic and stylistic influences come from these educators.
Sapna has worked and performed under the direction of many well-known professionals in the business such as Bollywood Choreographer Rajiv Surti (Dance India Dance) and her highly reputable mentor - Jazz Choreographer/Educator Heather Rigg (Broadway Dance Center). Sapna has also served as a dancer and assistant choreographer for the Sussex Stags Professional Dance Team. Sapna has worked with artists such as Vidya Vox, Shankar Tucker, Francesca Maria and Jonita Gandhi. She has had the privilege of choreographing and performing for the Philadelphia Sixers Half-time Show, New York Knicks Opening Act, and A R Rahman Musical Act (IIFA Rocks 2017) and most recently on NBC's New Amsterdam.
Sapna currently serves as the Assistant Creative Director for AATMA Performing Arts along with being a principal dancer for the Company’s Touring Production, Mystic India: The World Tour. Here she works with Director Amit Shah to create new and innovative ways to view the world of Bollywood. Through AATMA, Sapna has been able to spread her passion and joy for dance to young, aspiring students as well as audiences world-wide. Sapna has also been able to take her cultural influences and combine it with her passion for more modern dance styles to create her own version of dance and performance. She teaches Bollywood, Contemporary/Jazz, Street Jazz, and Heels classes as well as numerous workshops.
Sapna’s teaching style focuses deeply on connecting with your inner-confidence and feeling comfortable with your body and self. Sapna holds a BA in Political Science from Rutgers University. She has worked extensively in NJ politics in the past, and continues to actively promote both arts and politics in the South Asian community.
